Research-supported underlying process · evidence grade A/B
Where it comes from
Central to James Gross’s process model of emotion regulation.
What the evidence says
A substantial experimental literature; a large workplace field experiment reported lasting improvements in well-being and work outcomes.
When it helps
Ambiguous criticism, catastrophizing after meetings, and treating uncertainty as certainty.
Offered in the app for: Ordinary disagreement
Try it
- Ask: what is one less catastrophic interpretation that still fits the facts?
- Consider one alternative explanation consistent with the facts. Keep credible risks in view.
Watch out
- Don’t reframe explicit threats or discrimination into “maybe I’m overreacting”.
- Do not use to explain away credible mistreatment.
